A Mohave County Sherriff’s Office deputy was arrested on Tuesday after officials said he was suspected of engaging in sexual conduct with a 15-year-old girl.
Andrew Jacob Sundberg, 22, admitted to being involved in sexual conduct with the 15-year-old on June 30 during a house party near Harrison Street and Interstate 40 in Kingman, according to a Facebook post from the Kingman Police Department.
The department was asked to investigate the allegations against Sundberg after they were reported to the Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 26.
Both, Sundberg and the 15-year-old consumed alcohol and were intoxicated at the time, the department said. The girl knew Sundberg through mutual friends, the department added.
Sundberg during an interview with detectives on Tuesday admitted to being involved in sexual conduct with the girl, the department said.
He was then arrested and booked into a Mohave County jail on suspicion of sexual conduct with a minor, according to the department.
Sundberg was first hired as a Mohave County detention officer in Jan. 2018 and then promoted to deputy in Jan. 2020, according to a Facebook post from the Sheriff’s Office. He graduated from the police academy in June 2020, the Sherriff’s Office said.
“This is shocking and despicable behavior. Sundberg has betrayed the trust of the public and law enforcement alike,” said Mohave County Sheriff Doug Schuster in the Facebook post. “My thoughts are with the victim and we will assist the Kingman Police Department in any way we can to ensure he is prosecuted to the fullest degree”.
