A man was arrested Thursday in connection with a Phoenix crash that killed an airport shuttle passenger, Maricopa County court records show.

Authorities say on the evening of Jan. 31, 49-year-old David Garcia Arteaga was driving a gray Nissan Frontier eastbound on Washington Street.

Records revealed a shuttle bus owned by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport was headed north, waiting at a traffic light at the intersection of 32nd and Washington Street.

According to witness statements and the dash cam on the bus, Arteaga drove through a red light at a high speed causing the crash with the bus.

Records revealed an unidentified passenger was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

The shuttle driver and a second passenger also sustained injuries, authorities said.

Court records state Arteaga, who also was injured, took a preliminary breath test at the scene which registered .192 blood-alcohol concentration.

Authorities were able to obtain a search warrant for the data recorder from Arteaga’s vehicle which indicated he was traveling 50 to 60 mph upon impact.

The posted speed limit in the area is 40 mph, records show.

Arteaga was arrested Thursday and faces possible charges of one count of second degree murder, one count of endangerment and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
