Lucas Ramirez announced on social media Friday night that will be the next boys basketball coach at Scottsdale Saguaro High School.

This is pending Scottsdale Unified School District governing board approval.

“Humbled and honored to have this opportunity at Saguaro,” Ramirez said in a text. “This school has a rich tradition and community. We are excited to get to work and hit the ground running. It was an opportunity you don’t pass up.”

Bob LaRue stepped down after 31 years as an assistant and then head coach at Saguaro, where he won 348 games and a state championship (in 2004) in 21 seasons as head coach.

This past season, the Sabercats went 4-21.

This will be the 27-year-old Ramirez’s first head varsity coaching job.

He served as an assistant most recently at Horizon High School, where he graduated in 2011. He also was an assistant coach at Phoenix North Canyon and Phoenix College.
