The Diamondbacks open a three-game series in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday when RHP Taijuan Walker (3-1, 3.94 ERA) makes his first career start against the Nationals. Washington will send RHP Tanner Roark (3-0, 3.64 ERA) to the mound.
Game notes
The D-backs’ .593 winning percentage is third in the NL and sixth best in the majors.
Arizona’s 16 wins in April were tied for the second most in club history (also: 2000, ’02, ’07)…the team record was 19 in 2008.
The Diamondbacks own a NL record with seven consecutive games of 11+ strikeouts, 1 shy of the Indians’ MLB-record (eight from Sept. 16-23, 2014, source: Elias Sports Bureau).
D-Backs do D.C.
It started, as many visits in D.C. do, with a visit to one of the Diamondbacks’ congressional representative.
Members of the team, including coaches and staff, met with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and got a tour of the Capitol to boot.
McCain posted a video of the encounter on his Twitter page:
I welcomed the #Arizona@DBacks to DC today for a tour of the Capitol & quick pep talk before their series against @Nationals.
The team said a “large contingent’ of Diamondbacks, including Paul Goldschmidt and Torey Lovullo, were planning to visit the Walter Reed Medical Center on Wednesday.
The lineups:
A.J. Pollock, CF
Chris Owings, RF
Paul Goldschmidt, 1B
Jake Lamb, 3B
Yasmany Tomas, LF
Brandon Drury, 2B
Chris Herrmann, C
Nick Ahmed, SS
Taijuan Walker, P
