Southbound Loop 101 was shut down for about an hour on Friday night near Olive Avenue in Peoria after a serious crash that injured six people, officials said.
Photographs from the Arizona Department of Transportation’s freeway cameras showed at least two vehicles appeared to be involved, as well as multiple emergency vehicles at the scene just after 8:30 p.m.
Peoria fire officials reported that six people were injured in the four-vehicle crash. Four were considered “immediate” patients with the most serious injuries. Information on their conditions was not immediately available.
Several lanes were reopened just before 9:30 p.m., but ADOT said traffic backups were expected.
The northbound lanes were not affected.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety is still investigating the cause of the accident.
