Pinnacle senior Spencer Rattler got into a groove in the second half of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and showed why he was ranked the No. 1 pro-style quarterback in the country Saturday in San Antonio.

Rattler, an Oklahoma signee, threw a 26-yard touchdown pass in third quarter and a 41-yard touchdown in the final quarter, both to Ohio State-bound Garrett Wilson.

It was an impressive showing for Rattler, the 6-foot-2, 200-pounder who was playing in his first game since Oct. 12, when he became the first player in Arizona high school history to surpass 11,000 passing yards in a varsity career.

Rattler, who was ruled ineligible by the Paradise Valley Unified School District the following week for violating a rule, packed on 20 pounds with a workout program since his last game to prepare for Oklahoma.

Rattler follows Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray, who won the Heisman in 2018, a year after quarterback Baker Mayfield won the award for the Sooners.

Rattler showed how he is able to escape pass rushes and make deep throws downfield while on the run. On his second touchdown pass, he stepped up in the pocket, shook off a would-be sack and found Wilson in the end zone over two defenders.

On his first touchdown, Rattler showed good touch, hitting Wilson in the end zone in coverage.
