Paradise Valley prosecutors have formally charged Todd Troxel, assistant coach with the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, with misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct.
Police officers recommended the charges against Troxel following a “physical altercation” he and his fiancée had Nov. 30 in their Paradise Valley home.
Previous reports show Troxel’s fiancée sustained a minor injury to one of her hands. One of Troxel’s hands had a more serious cut and he was treated at a nearby hospital. Celebrity news site TMZ.com reported that Troxel punched through glass during the encounter.
Lt. Michael Cole, a Paradise Valley police spokesman, previously told The Arizona Republic the couple argued during an Uber ride back to Troxel’s home and that the argument became physical once they entered the residence.
After the initial report surfaced, the Phoenix Mercury told The Republic the team would monitor the situation and await more information. A team representative said the Mercury had no additional comment as of Friday afternoon.
Troxel has been a Mercury assistant coach for five seasons. He and Mercury head coach Sandy Brondello also were assistants with the Russian team UMMC Ekaterinburg.
