A major thunderstorm bringing heavy rains that began in the Northeast Valley moved quickly into parts of north Phoenix Thursday evening, bringing rainfall amounts above an inch in many areas.

A flash flood warning was issued for areas including Cave Creek and Carefree, after heavy rains drenched some areas with more than an inch of rain. That later was expanded to Phoenix and Scottsdale areas as the storm continued moving into the Valley.

A severe thunderstorm was issued for the entire Phoenix area until 6:45. The flash-flood warning was in place until 9 p.m., the National Weather Service said.

Cave Creek Rd. just south of the Cactus saw over 1 and half inches of rain fall in half an hour. 

The Desert Mountain region in northern Scottsdale said 1.5 inches of rainfall within an hour, according to the Maricopa County Flood Control District. An area near Cave Creek Road south of Cactus Road in Phoenix registered more than an inch of rain.

Cave Creek saw .91 inches and Carefree experienced 1.06 inches of rainfall within the hour, according to the district.. 

National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Cave Creek, Camp Creek and Carefree areas until 7:45 pm.
