David Heckard – a three-star defensive end from Las Vegas Faith Lutheran High – committed to Arizona State on Sunday.

Listed at 6-3 1/2 and 231 pounds, Heckard chose the Sun Devils over reported scholarship offers from San Diego State, UNLV, Fresno State, Utah and Portland State.

247 Sports ranks Heckard as the nation’s 89th weakside defensive end. Rivals does not rank him.

“He has a high ceiling that he hasn’t reached yet,” Faith Lutheran coach Vernon Fox told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

In the announcement posted on his Twitter account, Heckard thanked ASU assistant coaches Antonio Pierce and Shaun Nua for recruiting him.

“That being said I am 188% committed to ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY,” he wrote.

Heckard is the 11th to publicly commit to ASU’s 2019 recruiting class. Verbal commitments are non-binding. Commits can sign with schools during the early signing period, which starts Dec. 19.
