An 88-year-old woman died after she was hit by a car near 25th Avenue and Greenway Road on Friday morning, Phoenix police said.
The woman was crossing midblock just before 7 a.m. and a car heading east struck her, according to Sgt. Alan Pfohl, Phoenix police spokesman.
The driver, a 47-year-old woman, told officers that she did not see the pedestrian.
The driver was evaluated and determined not to be impaired, Pfohl said.
The elderly woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
“I cannot stress the importance of using a crosswalk enough, and to always watch for traffic while crossing the road,” Pfohl said.
