Candlelight vigil held Wednesday in Tucson for Isabel Celis

There are 59 reported missing Arizona children, dating back to 1959, according to the National Institute of Justice’s Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), a national centralized repository and resource center for missing persons and unidentified decedent records. It is important to note that NamUS does not provide a completely accurate number because it is a voluntary public database used by both law enforcement and the public to share information. These are all the Arizona children in the NamUs registry.

Maya has a history of providing false names and may portray herself as an adult.

Leonzo Andres Antonio Mateo, 17 | City: San Luis, Ariz. | Date last seen: July 20, 2015 | Ethnicity: Hispanic/Latino | Sex: Male | Height: 64 to 66 inches | Weight: 120 to 140 pounds | Leonzo Andres Antonio Mateo crossed the U.S.-Mexico border on foot with a group around July 20th, 2012. Around the 23rd or the 24th, the group split, and some were caught by Border Patrol. This was near San Luis, Arizona, near highway 86, near the Tohono O’Odham Reservation. Leonzo was left next to a tree because he wasn’t feeling well and his nose was bleeding.

Jhessye Shockley, 5 | City: Glendale, Ariz. | Date last seen: Oct. 11, 2011 | Race: Black | Sex: Female | Height: 41 inches | Weight: 55 pounds | Jhessye Shockley’s mother, Jerice Hunter, told police the girl had disappeared from their Glendale apartment. Her body has not been found, but in 2015 Hunter was convicted of killing Jhessye and sentenced to life in prison. Police believe the girl’s body was stuffed in a suitcase and left in a Tempe garbage bin.

Enrique Marquez Nataren, 17 | City: Lukeville, Ariz. | Date last seen: Aug. 1, 2011 | Ethnicity: Hispanic/Latino | Sex: Male | Height: 65 inches | Weight: 180 pounds | Enrique Marquez Nataren called his mother on Aug. 1, 2011 from Altar, saying they would be crossing the U.S.-Mexicao border the next day at Sonoyta/Lukeville. A man crossing with him said that he got very sick, and was vomiting on the way. The coyote called the family on Aug. 8, 2011, saying that Enrique had a heart attack on Aug. 5, 2011 and was left behind. He said that this was before reaching the Cerro de Elefante. He said that he was just sick, but didn’t say that he had died.

Gabriel is still missing.

Rita’s mother said she received a telephone call from Rita telling her she was in Nogales, Sonora Mexico on her way to her grandmother’s house; however, she never arrived. Rita and her mother were in the process of moving back to Mexico when Rita disappeared.

A federal warrant for international parental kidnapping was issued for Jonathan on Oct. 20, 2008. They may travel to Mexico, Ecuador, or other locations in Central or South America. Ephram is Biracial. He is Hispanic and White. Both Ephram and his father are bilingual; they speak English and Spanish.

Jose Henriquez-Diaz, 14 | City: Sells, Ariz. | Date last seen: June 3, 2007 | Ethnicity: Hispanic/Latino | Sex: Male | Height: 63 inches | Weight:130 pounds | Jose Rafael Henriquez-Diaz crossed the U.S.-Mexico border on foot with a small group of migrants. They started walking June 1, 2007. On June 3, the group heard ATV’s and everyone ran. There was a helicopter above them. Jose was hiding. All of the group was apprehended by Border Patrol except for Jose and two women. The three of them continued to walk alone. The women say that they were walking with Jose when they all became exhausted by the heat. They then noticed after awhile that Jose was no longer behind them. The two women were apprehended June 11 in the evening. They told Border Patrol that they had left a kid behind.

They arrived so Dorthy could purchase cigarettes for Danielle’s father. They had also purchased ice cream cones and used a pay phone outside the store before leaving. They were last seen by friends who drove past the Pitchers on their route home walking near the intersection of State Route 181 and 191. Search dogs picked up the Pitchers’ scents at the store and approximately one and a half miles into their route home along the highway. Foul play is suspected in their cases.
