‘Phoenix, Arizona, my city!’ Barkley exclaims in the commercial, which does not appear to take place here
The March Madness commercials are upon us, and one may stand out for Arizonans: a Capital One ad that seems to be set in Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
“Phoenix, Arizona, my city!” former Phoenix Suns player Charles Barkley says to Samuel L. Jackson and Spike Lee. “I won MVP here and I’m the voice of the Final Four.”
The only problem? The airport doesn’t appear to be Phoenix’s.
“As the gateway to the NCAA Men’s Final Four Championship, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is pleased to be represented as the setting of this entertaining ad. The filming location was similar to what travelers will experience in our newly-moderized Terminal 3, featuring large windows and abundant natural light,” Phoenix spokeswoman Julie Rodriguez said in an email.

In so many words: Close, but no cigar.
We know the chances are high that it was filmed in or around Los Angeles, but a city can dream, right?
The Republic reached out to Capitol One for comment but didn’t immediately hear back.
“America’s Friendliest Airport welcomes Charles Barkley, and the thousands of fans arriving for the Final Four festivities, back to Phoenix, Arizona,” Rodriguez said.
