An 81-year-old man shot and seriously wounded his son before turning the gun on himself at a Phoenix home early Tuesday, police said.

Officers responded to the house in the 5200 block of East Juniper Avenue, just south of Bell Road, about 7:35 a.m., where they found the 49-year-old son shot in the torso, Phoenix police said.

The man was hospitalized in serious condition Tuesday afternoon, Phoenix police said.

The man’s father was pronounced dead at the home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Further details about what led to the shootings were not immediately available.
