A 21-year-old man was fatally shot during an argument in north Phoenix Monday evening, police said.

The man was arguing with a 20-year-old man around 6:15 p.m. near 19th Avenue and Union Hills Drive, Phoenix police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said. During the argument, the 20-year-old shot the other man “numerous times,” Fortune said.

The 20-year-old was detained; the 21-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The men knew each other, Fortune said.

An investigation continues.
