Corrections & Clarifications: The age of the boy has been changed to reflect updated information provided by the Peoria Police Department.

A 2-year-old boy was pronounced dead at a hospital Friday afternoon after a drowning call near 83rd Avenue and Cactus Road in Peoria.

The boy was found earlier in the day in an above-ground pool in the backyard, but it was unknown how long he had been there, according to Tim Eiden, Peoria Fire Department spokesman.

It was not clear how the boy got into the pool, Eiden added. There was an adult and another child home at the time.

Peoria fire crews began performing CPR on the unresponsive boy, Eiden said. However, he died at a nearby hospital.

Police are investigating.
