An employee shot and killed a man who attacked him on Monday night at a business near 43rd Street and McDowell Road, according to Phoenix police. 

Police got a call just after 11 p.m. from the employee saying he had shot a man. Officers found a man with a gunshot wound at the business. He was taken to a hospital and later died.

Officers learned the man was threatening to harm customers at the business when the employee confronted him, according to police. The man then attacked the employee with a baton, and the employee shot him with a handgun, police said.

Police did not release the attacker’s name.

This is an ongoing investigation.
