The death of a woman found inside a home is being investigated as a homicide, Surprise police said Wednesday.

Just before 3 a.m. Tuesday, Surprise Police Department responded to a “unresponsive individual” call at the residence on Caribbean Lane just off of 178th Avenue.

“Upon arrival, officers checked the inside of the residence and located a single individual who was determined to be deceased,” said Sgt. Tim Klarkowski, a Surprise Police Department spokesman.

The individual is a woman who appears to be in her early 50s police said.

She was positively identified as of Wednesday morning, but the identity will not be released until all family members have been notified, police said.

An official determination on the cause and manner of the death is pending the Medical Examiner Office’s autopsy and report, police said.

Surprise police said Wednesday that the Arizona Department of Public Safety helped detect and collect evidence inside the home.

The FBI has provided linguists to assist as Arabic translators in the investigation, police said in a press release. Additional details were not provided.

The Surprise Police Department is urging anyone with information to contact the agency at 623-222-4000.
