Blowing dust was affecting driver visibility along Interstate 10 south of Phoenix and into parts of the Valley Monday afternoon, as high winds moved through the state.

Northern Arizona was seeing snowfall and hazardous winter driving conditions.

The windy conditions arrived as a front began moving through Arizona that is expected to bring much colder temperatures to the Phoenix area over the next few days, the National Weather Service said.

Cameras from the Arizona Department of Transportation picked up footage of the dust as it approached, which ADOT posted on its Twitter feed.

Wind gusts were expected to peak around 30-40 mph, with a small possibility of rain showers east of metro Phoenix, National Weather Service meteorologist Mark O’Malley said.

A blowing dust advisory was issued for Pinal County Monday afternoon.

The strong winds are expected to keep dust blowing until the latter part of the afternoon, O’Malley added.

While dust is blowing in the Valley, the Flagstaff area had blowing and drifting snow all afternoon, which has decreased visibility to a quarter of a mile or less, according to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff.

A low-pressure system moving east through southern Nevada and Utah will dip down into northern Arizona on Thursday and Friday, with snow expected, O’Malley said.

Phoenix is also slated to be “very cold” on Tuesday and Wednesday, with high temperatures dipping into the upper 50s or lower 60s both days, and overnight lows reaching the 30s in some areas of the Valley by early Wednesday.

There is no significant rain expected in the Phoenix area.
