Willie Nelson has released an animated video for “Vote ‘Em Out,” an election-year plea for fellow citizens to get out there and vote with a friendly reminder that “the biggest gun we got is called the ballot box.”

The song was first released to “rock the vote” ahead of the 2018 midterms.

The video arrives as Nelson is about to join Dave Matthews, John Mellencamp and Neil Young for the 35th edition of Farm Aid.

“Farm Aid 2020: On The Road” will go virtual this year due to COVID-19.

Fans will be able to tune in at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 in HD at Farm Aid’s website or YouTube channel, on AXS TV or on satellite radio at SiriusXM on either the Willie’s Roadhouse (Ch. 30) or Dave Matthews Band (Ch. 30) channels.

Other performers include Brandi Carlile, Jack Johnson, Norah Jones, Bonnie Raitt & Boz Skaggs, Nathaniel Rateliff and Chris Stapleton.

The plight of family farmers has only grown more dire in the face of a pandemic and its economic fallout.

Written with and produced by longtime collaborator Buddy Cannon, “Vote ‘Em Out” finds Nelson joined by sons Lukas and Micah, describing the right to vote as hard-won and sacred.

“If it’s a bunch of clowns you voted in,” he says, “Election day is comin’ ‘round again/ If you don’t like it now/ If it’s more than you’ll allow/ If you don’t like who’s in there/ Vote ’em out … .”
