University of Arizona football coach Kevin Sumlin has tested positive for COVID-19.
In a statement released Monday, Sumlin said his family has been aggressive in its efforts to remain healthy during the seven-month pandemic.
“My positive test result, while a shock, is a stark reminder of how we must all remain vigilant in our focus on hand washing, physical distancing and face coverings,” Sumlin said.
The statement continued by saying that Sumlin is not exhibiting any symptoms and will work with the team on a virtual basis until he completes the isolation protocols.
Sumlin’s positive test was found during a routine screening performed by the Intercollegiate Athletics Medical team.
UA opens its season Nov. 7 at Utah.
