Chandler and Phoenix Pinnacle are two of the state’s top high school football programs loaded with future college players.
Here’s a look at some from both teams to see Friday in The Arizona Republic‘s Week 2 Game of the Week:
Chandler Wolves (1-0)
Brandon Buckner, DE, 6-1, 236, Sr.
Committed to Oregon. The son of Arizona Cardinals defensive line coach Brentson Buckner. A sack machine who missed the first part of last season with a foot injury. Still made All-Arizona and is a USA Today First Team Preseason High School All-American.
Mikey Keene, QB, 5-11, 185, Sr.
Committed to Central Florida. Led Chargers to 13-0 season as a junior. Great leader who sees the field as well as anybody and gets the ball out quickly.
Eli Sanders, RB, 6-0, 190, Sr.
Committed to Boise State. He is a talented receiver and ball carrier who has several gears and will break loose with his speed. Become the featured back this year after splitting time the second half of last season with All-Arizona RB Dae Dae Hunter (now at Hawaii).
Zion Magalei, DE, 6-3, 230, Sr.
A force at the other end of maybe the state’s best defensive line, he has several offers, including Colorado.
Hank Pepper, LS/LB, 6-2, 215, Sr.
San Diego State commit. He’s a five-star long snapper who is ranked No. 2 in the nation in that specialty. But he also is a fierce linebacker.
Kyler Orr, LB, 6-2, 220, Sr.
The Air Force commit is in the middle of it on defense, always clogging up holes. He will be among the state’s leaders for tackles.
Quaron Adams, Athlete, 5-9, 165, Jr.
After missing most of last season with a broken collar bone, his recruiting likely will blow up this year, dazzling with his speed and moves as a kick returner, receiver and back.
Kyion Grayes, WR, 6-1, 175, Jr.
Already committed to the University of Arizona, he is ranked by The Republic as the state’s No. 2 wide receiver for the 2020 season. Already off to a great start in last week’s win over Peoria Liberty.
Jalen Richmond, WR, 6-0, 180, Sr.
Boise State commit. He is rated the No. 2 wide receiver in the state by The Republic. Stretches the defense.
Kentrell Williams Jr., S, 5-11, 190, Sr.
The Eastern Washington commit is a versatile safety who can be put in several spots on defense to lock it down.
Eli Swope, H-back, 6-3, 225, Sr.
Recent San Diego commit, Swope is a strong, athlete tight end who is a natural as an H-back, where he can move around in the backfield and make plays. Great blocker, athlete.
Pinnacle Pioneers (1-0)
Anthony Franklin, DL, 6-4, 255, Sr.
Committed to Stanford. Coach Dana Zupke calls him the best defensive lineman he has ever coached. Great athlete who is powerful and fast, tenacious.
Devon Dampier, QB, 5-11, 185, So.
Has had a big growth spurt since being thrust in the starting role as a freshman late in the season when senior QB J.D. Johnson was out when a heart condition was detected. Mobile, strong, accurate arm, comes from the hot Pinnacle QB assembly with former standout Spencer Rattler mentoring him.
Dorian Singer, WR, 6-1, 180, Sr.
Moved in from Minnesota during the summer and instantly gave the Pioneers a No. 1 big-play threat for Dampier. Has 14 scholarship offers, including a Power 5 from Iowa State.
Duce Robinson, TE/WR, 6-6, 221, So.
His athleticism is off the charts. His freshman season last year was cut short by an injury. Big-time matchup problem who has NFL potential.
Anthony Ament, RB, 6-0, 197, Sr.
A talented running back who can power through the middle and break loose outside for big runs. He helps keep defenses honest with his big-play abilities.
Dante Haynesworth, DB, 5-11, 170, Sr.
He’s been a fixture in the secondary the last two years. Great ball skills and not afraid to hit.
Alec Bernardo, OL, 6-2, 275, Sr.
Great leader on and off the field, tenacious, tough, strong whose recruiting will ramp up as the season progresses.
