Some on social media seem to be texting their number neighbor or “text door neighbor.”

Texting the wrong number can be an embarrassing affair.

For one person, it was likely mortifying.

The police department in Winfield, Missouri, on Friday took to Facebook to post a text exchange between someone who thought they were talking to somebody who wasn’t a law enforcement officer.

It started with an invite to a baseball game. The officer responded that he’d love to go but, unfortunately, the person texting the invitation had the wrong number.

The other person pressed on.

“No I don’t we went to the game together,” they said.

The officer asked which game they went to, and the person texting said they went to a game with “Shari” and “Diana.” They added, “We got high together girl.”

That’s when the cop decided to reveal exactly how wrong the other person was. The Winfield Police Department officer sent over a smiling selfie that included his police badge.

“Pretty sure we didn’t get high together,” the officer responded.

The officer then asked, “Are you still gonna come pick me up for the game though?” He followed that up with, “I was really looking forward to going to the game,” with a few crying emojis.

The person who initiated the conversation finally admitted they had the wrong number, to which the officer replied, “I tried to tell you but nnnooo I don’t know what I’m talking about.”

“You can stop now,” the person replied with a stop sign emoji. That was the last message shown in the Facebook post.

The exchange was posted Friday. It  has been shared nearly 10,000 times. Most of the post’s more than 700 comments were from people who either found the exchange hilarious or wanted to take the pictured cop to another baseball game.
