Mesa police on Friday identified the victims in two separate overnight homicides.

Police said they know the homicides are isolated and not related, said Sgt. Diana Williams, Mesa Police Department spokeswoman.

In the first homicide, officers responded to a possible shooting about 8 p.m. Thursday in the 300 block of East Eighth Drive.

They found two victims, one of whom was identified as 31-year-old Jorge Alcantar, who died. The second person was a 45-year-old female, who was injured but treated and released and was not identified, according to police.

Police are looking for a male suspect in the case. All parties were known to each other, Mesa police said.

In the other homicide, officers answering a possible assault call at about 3:30 a.m. Friday found Cristian Camarena, 20, dead at the scene, in the 1400 block of South Stapley Drive. Police did not provide information about how he was killed.

“Right now, we cannot confirm anything until our detectives are able to go in and speak to additional witnesses and locate evidence,” Williams said.
