Two people were trapped in a whirlpool in the Salt River on Sunday night near the Beeline Highway.
The Mesa Fire and Medical Department sent out a rescue team to assist the Salt River Fire Department with a water rescue effort, according to a Mesa Fire Department official.
“Preliminary information indicates two people were trapped in a river whirlpool near Red Mountain,” a Mesa Fire Department official said.
