Two people died and one person was hospitalized after a plane crash north of Seeley Lake Airport in Montana, according to officials.
Around 9:50 p.m. Saturday, the Florida Air Refuge Center reported a possible plane crash, said a Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post on Sunday.
Missoula County deputies and Seeley-Swan search and rescue crews assisted the Powell County Sheriff’s Office in locating the plane, which was found at 12:52 a.m. Sunday, according to the post.
The pilot and one passenger, who were identified as Charles E. Wolff, 67, from Green Valley, Arizona, and Wayne D. Cahoon, 59, from Seeley Lake, Montana, died in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office. It is unclear whether Wolff was a passenger or piloting the plane.
A second passenger who survived the crash was transported to a hospital in Washington state, according to the post.
The National Transportation Safety Board said in a tweet that it was investigating the crash of the aircraft, which was identified as a Cessna 172, single-engine, four-passenger plane, but was not traveling to the scene of the crash.
