TUCSON — Tucson police say two officers fatally shot a man who had been holding a gun to his head as he approached them and then lowered the weapon in the direction of officers.

The weapon later was determined to be a BB gun.

Police say the shooting occurred Friday night at South Lawn Cemetery after officers responded to a phone call from the man, who said he was suicidal and had a gun.

Police identified the man Saturday as 34-year-old Joseph Zimmerman.

According to police, Zimmerman refused to obey multiple commands to put down the gun.

Police said criminal and administrative investigations will be conducted.

 Sgt. Kim Bay said no officers involved in the shooting were injured.

A funeral service was underway in the facility’s mortuary when the shooting occurred.
