A high temperature of 101 degrees on Friday in Phoenix could tie another weather record, according to the National Weather Service.

“This would tie the 1991 record,” said Bianca Seldkircher, a Weather Service meteorologist.

The record of 143 days of 100-plus-degree weather set in 1989 was broken on Wednesday.

Today’s triple-digit forecast would mark the 145th day of 100-plus-degree temperatures, Seldkircher said.

However, over the weekend and into next week, temperatures are expected to cool down.

Seldkircher explained that a low pressure system will enter Arizona, causing the decrease in temperature.

Though the forecast could change, Seldkircher said, Arizona could expect to see cooler temperatures until Oct. 22.

“That weekend, we may warm up a little bit, but then we could see a stronger low pressure system for that weekend, which could bring temperatures down even more,” Seldkircher said.
