The former treasurer of a Cottonwood business organization was arrested on suspicion of defrauding the organization of more than $100,000 in 2018.
After several years on the run, Traci Koelzer was arrested in Oakland County, Michigan, and was extradited back to the Yavapai County Detention Facility, according to a statement released Wednesday by the Cottonwood Police Department.
A “concerned citizen” provided law enforcement information on Koelzer’s whereabouts, and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Taskforce arrested her, the statement said.
Koelzer was identified as a suspect in defrauding the Old Town Association out of more than $100,000.
The Old Town Association is a non-profit merchant association comprised of business owners and community members in the Old Town Cottonwood area in Cottonwood, according to its website.
Koelzer fled the area after being aware of the pending investigation in 2018, according to a previous statement released by the police department.
Currently in custody, Koelzer is being held on charges of fraudulent schemes and artifices and theft, which are both Class 2 Felonies, according to the department.
The Old Town Association did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
