What happens in the trenches keys offenses. They’re the engines to any effective offense. And, in Arizona, there are so many of these guys up front who can pave the way that it’s hard to keep this list at just 10. There could be double that number making it to Division I college football.

Let’s look at this next list breaking down the 2019 high school football season:

Top 10 offensive linemen

No. 1 Tosh Baker, Pinnacle, 6-8, 275

He started out as a basketball recruit, but blew up during his junior season as a major-college football recruit with quick feet, agility and length that keeps defenders away from the quarterback. He has committed to the University of Notre Dame.

No. 2 Bram Walden, Scottsdale Saguaro, 6-4, 275

He clearly passes the eyeball test and he’s got more growing to do. Little body fat. Big motor. Great leader. He is confident and humble and will crash through a wall to win a game. Bram will go bam.

No. 3 Jonah Miller, Tucson Salpointe Catholic, 6-6, 300

This is another big-time talent with NFL potential. He’ll have his pick of any major college football program he wants out of high school. But he still is only entering his junior year. Watch this guy to continue to develop and pave big holes for running back Bijan Robinson.

No. 4 Cooper Darling, Gilbert Williams Field, 6-4, 290

He is nasty as they come in the trenches. Tough, hard-nosed, determined not to let anybody lay a hand on his quarterback. His stock took off in the spring with Arizona State, San Diego and Oregon State offers during the same week. He committed to Pac-12 Oregon State.

No. 5 Noah Nelson, Williams Field, 6-7, 290

This senior has the size and tools to be as good as any tackle to come out of the Valley since Scottsdale Chaparral’s Taylor Lewan. He has a strong lower body and can drive his man downfield to free up backs for big plays.

No. 6 Cade Bennett, Notre Dame, 6-4, 295

He committed to Oklahoma State. Has been a fixture on the line since his sophomore year, helping the Saints go 13-1 in each of the last two years, losing their only games in the 5A state finals to Peoria Centennial. Big motor, great feet, tenacious.

No. 7 Jaylan Jeffers, Saguaro, 6-6, 260

ASU is all over this guy. But so are several other Power 5 colleges. He’ll make any college he goes to better with his drive and physical abilities. Great blocker and can open holes with his downfield hustle.

No. 8 Andrew Milek, Phoenix Brophy Prep, 6-5, 275

Recent USC commit, Milek has long arms, great reach, big-time motor. He has a chance to play on Sundays. Big time potential.

No. 9 Benjamin Bray, Mesa Red Mountain, 6-5, 270

He committed to Arizona State after his recruiting blew up in the spring. He’ll be in his third year starting on the varsity line. He has great frame, strong, tough in the gaps, opens holes and can pass protect.

No. 10 Nehemiah Maglei, Chandler, 6-2, 305

As versatile an offensive lineman as you’ll find in the state. He will be in his third year starting varsity with already two state championship rings, leading the state’s best rushing offense the last two years.
