Tool’s first release in 13 years, 2019’s “Fear Inoculum,” won Top Rock Album honors at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday, beating titles by the Lumineers, Slipknot, Tame Impala and Vampire Weekend.

It’s one of two nominations for Tool, a group fronted by Maynard James Keenan, who’s made his home in Jerome, Arizona, since 1995.

They were also up for Top Rock Artist, which they somehow lost to Panic! at the Disco.

Earlier this year, Tool won a Grammy for a track on “Fear Inoculum,” a Best Metal Performance Award for “7empest.”

“Fear Inoculum” was Tool’s third effort to top Billboard’s album chart, following 2001’s “Lateralus” and 2006’s “10,000 Days.”

Kelly Clarkson returned as host for the awards, which were broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on NBC.

Post Malone had the most nominations, 16 nods in 15 categories, followed by first-time nominees Lil Nas X with 13 and Billie Eilish and Khalid, both with 12.
