Two women with life-threatening injuries and three children were rushed to hospitals following a collision Friday afternoon near 17th Avenue and Camelback Road, officials said.
Among the critically injured patients were a 36-year-old pregnant woman and a 21-year-old woman. A 12-year-old girl had a possibly fractured leg, and two other children were said to have minor injuries.
The three-car collision closed westbound lanes of Camelback Road at 17th Street just after 3 p.m., but Valley Metro light-rail trains were still able to move through.
The circumstances of the collision were not immediately available.
