Flash flood warnings were issued Saturday afternoon for Tucson and areas of La Paz County as significant rain began to fall there, according to the National Weather Service.

A storm with lightning and gusty winds developed over the Tucson metro area Saturday afternoon, heading west and northwest, according to the Weather Service. Showers were still falling as of 6 p.m. over the west and northwest portions of Tucson. 

Small stream flood advisories were issued for Tucson and South Tucson through 7:30 p.m., the Weather Service tweeted. Residents were advised to avoid running washes and minor flooding in low-lying areas. 

Weather advisories were also issued for some areas of La Paz County as significant rain began to fall there Saturday afternoon, according to the Weather Service.

The warning was reported for the towns of Brenda, Bouse and Utting, noting that rainfall also was reported near Interstate 10, east of Quartzsite, the Weather Service tweeted Saturday.

A flash flood threat was reported for parts of highways 60 and 72 and within Bouse Wash through 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The Weather Service advised people not walk or drive through flood waters.
