San Francisco Giants

Giants update: After dropping two of three to the Diamondbacks last week at AT&T Park, the Giants traveled to San Diego, where they dropped three of four to the Padres. Fifteen games into the season, they have just six wins and have yet to win a series. Given that they’ve been without LHP Madison Bumgarner and RHP Jeff Samardzija all year and that RHP Johnny Cueto also has spent time on the DL, it figured the Giants’ pitching would be an issue. But it really hasn’t been, at least not so far. Their staff has a 3.71 ERA, ranking seventh in the league. The biggest problem has been an offense that’s averaging just 3.07 runs per game, which is the second-worst mark in the league ahead of the Cincinnati Reds. 2B Joe Panik (.304, three homers) and C Buster Posey (.313, eight RBIs) have swung the bat well, but the Giants haven’t received enough production from several spots in the lineup, including LF Hunter Pence (.200, one extra-base hit) and 3B Evan Longoria (.204, .218 on-base). RHP Chris Stratton, whom the Diamondbacks will face on Wednesday, has a 2.60 ERA in three starts. He has a 3.45 ERA in 86 innings in his career.

Giants at Diamondbacks

When: 6:40 p.m.

Where: Chase Field (Roof hotline: 602-462-6262).

Pitchers: Diamondbacks LHP Patrick Corbin (2-0, 2.45) vs. Giants RHP Johnny Cueto (1-0, 0.69).

TV/Radio: FSAZ/KMVP-FM (98.7), KHOV-FM (105.1).

Corbin watched a strong outing get away from him last week against the Giants, who rallied for three runs in the sixth inning in part because of some well-placed singles. … Corbin continued to miss bats at a terrific rate; in 18 1/3 innings, he has 29 strikeouts. His 14.2 strikeouts per nine innings is the best in the league. … Cueto was scratched from his start against the Diamondbacks last week due to an ankle issue. He’s expected to be reinstated from the disabled list to pitch on Tuesday night. … He has made two starts already this year, tossing seven scoreless innings against the Dodgers and allowing one run in six innings vs. the Mariners. … 1B Paul Goldschmidt is 7 for 27 (.259) with two doubles and two homers off Cueto.
