We’ve got plans. Big plans.
Wandering up and down every aisle in Costco, taste testing tiny quiches.
Eating popcorn and Junior Mints while seeing a movie on the big screen.
Dancing to live music.
OK, so maybe they’re not big plans. In my newsletter this week, I asked readers what they’ll feel safe doing once they’re fully vaccinated.
Sure, some people will take trips. Steve Miller will take an Alaskan cruise, twice canceled and rescheduled. Gerri Hether finally will make it to Hawaii with her husband to celebrate their 40th anniversary two months after their 41st.
But mostly, we are missing the small things.
Margaret Wu got her hair cut. Rob Perez had his teeth cleaned.
Suzi Hileman will play mahjong with real tiles instead of virtually and go to the Loft Cinema, Tucson’s artsy theater, where the audience skews older and is more likely to be vaccinated.
She’ll eat fresh-from-the-oven pizzas and hamburgers from the sports bar around the corner. She’ll pick out fruit at the grocery store.
And she’ll hug her kids and grandkids. She told me to alert Guinness World Records: “A record will be set.”
A lot of people plan to hug. (Non-huggers beware.)
“ASAP, I plan on grabbing my adult children, my grandsons and my friends, giving them the best long bear hug I can!” Ellen Waters wrote. “Heck, I might even hug complete strangers. (I’ll ask first.) Do you need a hug?”
I’ll take one.
Everyone said they will still wear masks and will follow safety protocols until they’re lifted.
Mike Doyle is back at the gym. Linda Graves took her kids to the Phoenix Zoo.
For the first time in a year, Carole Perrello went out to eat, at a sushi restaurant, with her daughter and three granddaughters. They also booked two rooms at a local hotel for a staycation during spring break.
“Who knew such routine things could become so exciting?” Perrello wrote.
We do. Now.
