Queen Creek junior quarterback Devin Brown has given USC a commitment to play football.

This is the second Phoenix-area quarterback in the last couple of years to commit to the Trojans.

Former Scottsdale Desert Mountain quarterback Kedon Slovis had a breakthrough season for the Trojans as a true freshman last season.

Brown feels he could flourish the same way Slovis has under offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Graham Harrell at USC.

“I think USC is dream offer for any QB,” Brown said. “I’ve watched Kedon Slovis blow up in Coach Harrell’s system,” he said.

“Coach Harrell feels like my skill set will translate to the same level of success in his system. The chance to possibly add my name to a list that includes names like Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Mark Sanchez, Sam Darnold and Kedon Slovis is something I just couldn’t pass up.”

Two of the state’s top junior quarterbacks will see each other Wednesday when Queen Creek plays host to Chandler Hamilton and quarterback Nicco Marchiol.

Brown, 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, passed for 1,319 yards and 10 touchdowns in eight games last season for the Bulldogs. He completed 100 of 221 passes.

USC offered Brown a scholarship on Sept. 1.

“As for the timing, I think a lot of schools will limit themselves to one quarterback in this class because of players getting an extra year of eligibility,” Brown said. “I think a lot of QBs in this class will start to commit early for a limited number of spots. Plus, when something feels like this good of a fit, I don’t see a reason to delay.”
