Cooler temperatures and rain could move into the Valley next week.

After warmer temperatures over the weekend, the Phoenix area could see some sporadic rain showers Tuesday through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Phoenix area will experience cooler temperatures in the morning around 40 degrees, but will warm up into the upper 70s to low 80s during the day, according to the weather service.

“This weekend will be delightful for the metro,” said Mark O’Malley, a meteorologist with the weather service in Phoenix.

Next week, a storm system entering the southwest United States could bring chances of rain to the Phoenix area, said O’Malley.

“Some places within the region will see some rainfall,” he said. “This is probably our best chance of rain in many locations so far this winter.”

The Phoenix area will have a 30% chance of rain, with Wednesday evening having the highest chance, but it’s uncertain how much rainfall the area will see, O’Malley said.

The last rain the Valley saw was in December, said O’Malley. Most of Arizona remains in an extreme to exceptional drought, according to the United States Drought Monitor.

A low pressure system will also bring in cooler temperatures during the first half of next week with periods of breezy to windy conditions through Wednesday, according to the weather service.

Drivers should be aware of slick roads during rainfall next week, according to O’Malley.

“We want people to really slow down and watch themselves driving around because one, they haven’t been used to driving in rain for quite some time, and two, the roads are going to be quite slick,” O’Malley said.

Flagstaff will see warm days through Monday evening, when parts of northern Arizona could experience some rain and light snow showers, according to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff.

The National Weather Service in Tucson said southeastern Arizona will experience a warm and dry weekend with temperatures will be 8 to 10 degrees above normal on Saturday.

Southern Arizona will also have chances of rain next week, according to the weather service.
