A Pima County Adult Detention Complex inmate who was found unresponsive in his cell on Feb. 10 was pronounced dead at the hospital the next day, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a media release on Friday.

Corrections officers at the complex were alerted to an unresponsive inmate, later identified as 50-year-old Todd Ash, in his cell at 7 a.m. on Feb. 10, according to the release from the Sheriff’s Department.

Officers entered Ash’s cell and attempted lifesaving measures while they waited for the Tucson Fire Department to arrive.

Tucson Fire resuscitated Ash and transported him to a hospital, the media release said.

At the hospital, Ash’s condition worsened and he died on Feb. 11.

The media release also said the Criminal Investigations Division has taken over the investigation, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
