A limo driver was shot by his passenger at the end of his ride in West Phoenix early Sunday morning, authorities said.

At about 1 a.m., police responded to reports of a shooting near 69th Avenue and Van Buren Street, said Sgt. Alan Pfohl, a Phoenix police spokesman.

A man who had hired a limo for the evening had refused to pay the driver for the time that went beyond the original contract, he said.

When the driver, Pfohl said, got out of the limo to confront the passenger in his front yard, the suspect fired a gun several times in a downward direction.

The driver was shot twice in the legs.

Upon arrival, the suspect still had the gun in his hands and was arrested without incident, Pfohl said.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No other details were immediately available
