Eight people were detained after at least one of them fired shots at police closing in on a home in south Phoenix Thursday morning, officials said.

Officers were struck by shrapnel from bullets fired through a door and bullets hitting concrete, but no one was hurt, according to Phoenix police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune.

Fortune said officers fired back once; no one was shot.

Police had gone to the residence in the 2300 block of West Roeser Road to serve a search warrant for suspected drug activity at about 4:30 a.m.

Fortune said there was no standoff and that all eight people inside the home — all adults — were detained for questioning.
