Phoenix Mercury forward Brianna Turner has been named to the WNBA All-Defensive First Team, the league announced on Tuesday.

Turner ranked second in the WNBA in blocks (1.95 per game) and seventh in defensive rebounding (6.4 per game) while starting in all 22 games for Phoenix. She is the third Mercury player to earn all-defensive team honors.

Turner’s overall rebound average of 9.0 per game set the franchise record, and her 21 rebounds on Sept. 9 against Connecticut set a team record for rebounds in a single game. She was one of only two WNBA players this season, along with 2020 league MVP A’ja Wilson, to average at least 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.

The rest of the first team: Alysha Clark, Seattle Storm; Betnijah Laney, Atlanta Dream; Alyssa Thomas, Connecticut Sun and Elizabeth Williams, Atlanta Dream.
