Seattle Storm at Phoenix Mercury

When: 3 p.m.

Where: Talking Stick Resort Arena.

Mercury: Sandy Brondello is back from her Russian team and will be coaching in the Mercury’s second and final preseason game. The Mercury lost 86-64 at Seattle on Wednesday when the top scorers were rookies Alexis Prince (12 points) and Sophie Brunner (9). Brunner, out of Arizona State, also had five rebounds in 18 minutes. Emma Cannon had six points and six rebounds. Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner are not expected to play and the Mercury also could be without Cayla George and Yvonne Turner. The regular season opener is at home May 14 against the Dallas Wings. 

Storm: Four Seattle players — Carolyn Swords (15), Samantha Whitcomb (15), Jewell Loyd (14) and Crystal Langhorne (10) — scored in double figures Wednesday. Sue Bird, Breanna Stewart and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis were among those out for the Storm. Bird had arthroscopic surgery on her left knee in April. Seattle chose G Alexis Peterson from Syracuse in the WNBA draft second round (No. 15 overall).
