Peoria senior running back Juwaun Price gave New Mexico State a commitment on Tuesday to play football.

He is expected to sign his national letter of intent on Dec. 19, when the early signing window starts.

“We are excited for Juwaun,” Peoria coach Will Babb said. “He has worked hard in the classroom and on the field to be in this position.

“I feel like he is coming into his own as a young man and athlete. I believe his speed, vision and patience should transfer well to the Division I level.”

Price, 5-foot-10, 185 pounds, ran for 1,693 yards and 26 touchdowns on 127 carries (13.3 yards a carry) this past season. He scored a total of 33 TDs.

He ran for nearly 1,500 yards as a junior.

“When I took the visit with my mom, I was very comfortable,” Price said of New Mexico State. “It’s a family-oriented place. I met all the actual college players and they were really cool. I love the coaches and really believe I can be a good fit for their offense.

“They really believe in me, which is really good.”

Babb believes with Price getting in the weight room the next two summers, he’ll be playing at 200 pounds.

“One of the biggest things coaches expressed about Juwaun through this process was, he’s only beginning to reach his potential physically,” Babb said.

Price is the first Arizona high school football recruit in this year’s class to commit to NMSU. Last year, six Arizona high school football players did so. There are currently 13 Arizona high school products on the New Mexico State football roster.
