A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a car Tuesday evening in southwest Phoenix, the Police Department said.

The pedestrian was struck just north of the intersection at 83rd Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road around 6:30 p.m., Sgt. Vince Lewis said.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police, Lewis said.

The roadway was expected to be closed through Tuesday night, Lewis said.

An investigation is ongoing.
