Peoria police are investigating a fatal collision that killed a pedestrian Wednesday night.
According to Sgt. Brandon Sheffert, a department spokesman, the pedestrian was crossing a roadway near 91st and Olive avenues around 9 p.m. — midblock, not in a crosswalk.
A tow truck with a full size bus in tow was stopped at a red light on eastbound Olive Avenue. Sheffert said it appeared the pedestrian walked between the tow truck and the attached bus and was between the vehicles when the traffic light turned green.
The tow truck driver proceeded when the light turned green, and the pedestrian was run over by the bus being towed.
The pedestrian, an unidentified man, had extensive head injuries and died at the location.
The driver of the tow truck was not injured and fully cooperated with the investigation. Sheffert said impairment and speed are not being investigated as factors.
“This appears to be a tragic accident, no arrests have been made, and no citations have been issued,” he said.
