Northern Arizona’s weekend weather snarled traffic on a number of roadways early Sunday.

Arizona Department of Transportation cameras showed heavy snow blanketing Interstate 40 in Flagstaff and State Route 89A outside of Sedona.

ADOT officials urged drivers to stay off the road while parts of Coconino County were hit with another bout of winter weather early Sunday.

Valley residents heading north on U.S. 180 and Interstate 17 to play in the snow should use caution on the roads and allow extra time to reach destinations.

The snow caused slowing on I-40. Westbound lanes of the highway remained closed at Winona east of Flagstaff Sunday morning following a crash.

Snow showers were expected to taper off in northwest Arizona Sunday.

Navajo and Apache counties in the northeastern parts of the state could see more winter weather through the late morning with snowfall rates of up to an inch per hour.

The storm already dumped more than 6 inches of snow in Flagstaff over the weekend, according to NWS. Additional snow totals for the overnight storm weren’t immediately available Sunday.
