Firefighters reported reduced fire activity and a 15% increase in containment of the Sears Fire near CaveCreek on Wednesday.
The blaze is now 45% contained and access to Bartlett Dam Road and Bartlett Lake have been restored, according to a news release from Tonto National Forest.
The Sears Fire, which has already claimed more than 14,000 acres, first sparked on Friday near Forest Service Road and Sears Kay Ranch.
Approximately 170 response personnel, including helicopters and water tenders, have been deployed and road repairs in the area have begun, the release said.
Despite decreased activity, officials also remind the public to avoid the area and take proper safety precautions.
“Flying a drone near a wildfire is breaking the law and potentially endangers firefighters,” the release read.
Firefighters continue to closely monitor nearby residential areas and critical infrastructure on Humboldt Lookout. Lower Camp Creek power lines have been restored, the statement said.
A wildfire smoke forecast can be found on the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality website and details on restrictions currently in place across the Tonto National Forest can be accessed on its website.
