No. 13 Arizona State hockey suffered a second straight loss Saturday night, 3-2 at No. 17 Cornell.
Cornell’s Cam Donaldson scored two first-period goals, one early and another late, then added a power play goal in the third period.
The Big Red also won 6-1 on Friday.
Jarrod Gourley scored for ASU at 14:22 of the third period off assists by Austin Lemieux and PJ Marrocco. Captain Brinson Pasichnuk also scored with 21 seconds remaining when the Sun Devils pulled goalie Joey Daccord in favor of an extra attacker.
ASU had a 29-28 edge in shots on goal Saturday.
“I thought in the second and third we outplayed that team,” ASU coach Greg Powers said. “A couple critical mistakes we can’t make on the road tonight – a defenseman pinching and a mishandle there in the third – and a slow start the first two minutes. Those three things cost us the game.
“As we continue to grow and try to accomplish what we want to, going on the road, you can’t make those mistakes. This is one we can learn from and build from. That’s a really good team.”
Johnny Walker had ASU’s lone score Friday, his nation-leading 19th goal.
ASU (16-9-1) dropped both ends of a weekend series for the first time since Nov. 23-23 at Nebraska Omaha and third time all season.
Cornell improved to 9-5-1.
ASU is off until playing at Boston University of Jan. 25-26.
