Pinal County authorities seized nearly $2 million in methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Casa Grande, according to sheriff’s officials.
A Pinal County deputy working with the U.S. Border Patrol stopped a vehicle traveling west on I-10 near mile marker 196 around 1 p.m. on Oct. 1, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office posted Tuesday on its Facebook page.
Rogelio Bustamante, who was identified as the SUV driver, had a warrant from Nogales and was driving on a suspended license, sheriff’s officials reported.
After finding inconsistencies in Bustamante’s statement, deputies investigated further and searched the vehicle, finding dozens of drug bundles stashed throughout.
Deputies found 166 packages containing 54,840 fentanyl pills, 124.8 pounds of heroin, and 103.7 pounds of meth, according to the sheriff’s officials. The haul was described as worth nearly $1.8 million.
Officials described the seizure as “one of the largest drug busts in recent years,” according to the Facebook post.
