A woman who was fatally shot in a county area near Mesa on Monday has been identified by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Bryn Murphy, 27, was shot and killed, and a man she was with who also was shot remained hospitalized in critical condition Thursday, said Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez.

The shooting occurred at a house in the 9700 block of East Baywood in Mesa shortly after 11 p.m., Enriquez said. The area is unincorporated county jurisdiction near Main Street and Crismon Road in Mesa.

The Sheriff’s Office initially said it appeared the two were shot in their front yard in what was described as a drive-by shooting.

Enriquez said the investigation is ongoing.
