A motorcyclist was killed in a collision in Gilbert on Tuesday, police said.

The collision occurred near the intersection of Los Alamos Street and Val Vista Drive, according to Gilbert police. 

About 2 p.m., the southbound motorcyclist crashed into the back of a pickup truck that was turning from a neighborhood street onto Val Vista Drive, officials said.

Police said the motorcyclist was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead of injuries.

The intersection was closed to traffic during the investigation. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area until 7 p.m.
